Today proved that the demand was certainly there. I was just going to have to come up with a way to keep the supply flowing.  At the current moment all I wanted to do was go home. I was dog tired. I had about ten minutes until close when I heard the door chime. Internally I was groaning. We closed up at eight…well I closed up at eight since I was the only one left in the bakery at the moment. My helpers, that’s what I preferred to call my employees. It sounded better. Anyway, my helpers went home and Amad would be coming in a few to help me clean up.

With my back turned I told my patron, who had ten other hours to get here, that I would be right with them.

            “Take your time.”

When I heard the voice, I froze. Like went dead still. I knew who that voice belonged to and I mean I’m not surprised he was here. Hazel eyes frequented the barbershop quite often, so it was only a matter of time before he made his way over. Even if it was just to check the place out, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be opening day.

I kept asking myself if I was going to turn around or keep being a punk. I probably have flour on my face or something embarrassing like that. I rolled my eyes at myself before I turned around and smiled. It was a genuine smile. By no means forced or put on for seven-fifty-six in the evening.

“Welcome to Sugar Rush. How may I help you?”

He smiled back, “I’ll let you know that in a second.”
